The Catholic Community of Stanford is the best thing about Stanford. I have met my best friends and mentors here. God has blessed me by giving me a lot of grace to engage and immerse myself in CC@S over the past year. I have so many good memories with the wonderful people in this community. Through finding God in all things, I can live my best life. The priests, sisters, and lay ministers have walked with not only me but many of my friends through their journeys from wanting to give up to making Stanford their second home.
Last year, I reached out to Fr. Bob and he enthusiastically took me under his wing and I started to open up to others. With his and Fr. Xavier’s support, I started to participate more in events by going on the Silent Retreat, then joining small group, becoming an altar server, reading at Daily Mass, and now joining the Undergraduate Catholic Leadership Team. I have also bonded with many friends whether procrastinating at Friday night On-Call, spending the night in Fr. Xavier’s office, or partying with the grad students, we always know we have each other’s back.
One of my favorite moments is when we have s’mores on the silent retreat. We can start new or deepen our friendships with each unique and beautiful member of the Catholic Community. I am now proud to identify as Catholic and my faith is stronger than ever. My favorite quote is “Whatever you do that makes you feel most alive, that is where God is” by St. Ignatius of Loyola. When I am with members of the Catholic Community, my heart is on fire with that love. I am so grateful for CC@S and I know that God works miracles in our lives.
