Keeping The Faith and Making A Difference

Donors Celebrated for Sharing Their Gifts

Each year we give the Fr. John Tierney Award to those CC@S members who have made an outstanding contribution of service to the Catholic Community at Stanford. This year, we had a blockbuster of four recipients:

Matt Gonzalez (BS 2015, MS 2016) has been a veritable dynamo of activity. This year he surpassed himself in his passionate work for interfaith understanding and his leadership at the 10 PM Mass. Matt is about building bridges of respect and understanding. He connects people to people. At the same time he has called forth leaders to succeed him.

Max Radermacher (BS 2016) has a great ability to uplift and support everyone around him. He exemplified leadership through service, especially during the 10pm Mass and fellowship following Mass.

Valerie McGuire (Senior Research Scientist, Stanford School of Medicine) is a community member who truly serves through her work as a liturgical master of ceremonies, Eucharistic ministry leader, Chair of the Finance Council, and collection counter. Everything she does is grace‐filled and in service to others without needing accolades.

Chris Candelaria (BA 2006, MA 2014, PhD 2016) has served CC@S both as an undergrad and graduate student. He has played piano for literally hundreds of Masses and led the 10:00 p.m. student choir for the past 6 years, always with kindness, quality, and artistry.
