From Fr. Bart, April 21, 2025:
Brothers and Sisters,
As the world mourns the death of Pope Francis, let us add our prayers for the repose of his soul and for the Universal Church. The gentle and humble Pontiff ministered to the world for 13 years. He strived to show us how to live as disciples of Christ, with special emphasis on care for migrants, reaching out to the marginalized, care for our common planetary home, and the super-abundant mercy of God.
This is from his Urbi et Orbi message yesterday:
“Love has triumphed over hatred, light over darkness and truth over falsehood. Forgiveness has triumphed over revenge. Evil has not disappeared from history; it will remain until the end, but it no longer has the upper hand; it no longer has power over those who accept the grace of this day.”
With the Alleluia of the last Easter Mass still ringing in our ears, we are reminded of the frailty of this life. But still, we chose the hope of resurrection. Even as we celebrate the Jubilee Year of Hope initiated by Pope Francis, we ask for the grace to live as men and women of hope, even in the midst of grieving.
We will designate a Mass for the Holy Father for our community close to the time of his actual funeral.
May the divine assistance remain with us always, and may his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
Blessings,
Fr. Bart Hutcherson, OP
