Alpha Plus for Stanford: An Experiential Project

Alpha is an 11-week course that creates a space where people are excited to bring their friends for a conversation about faith, life and God. It has three cores components:

  1. Hospitality over a cup of coffee and a snack or a meal. It’s time to connect, relax and build.

  2. A Short Talk to engage and spark conversation about faith

  3. A Time to Discuss: Exploring other’s insights and experiences.

History of Alpha’s Beginnings

Alpha began in an Anglican Church in England for people to discover the faith and fervor that marks a Christian. Alpha courses are used by Anglicans, Presbyterians, Lutherans, Baptists, Methodists, Pentecostals, Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholics in over 100 countries and touching over 24 million people. The program was adjusted for a Catholic context, but some thought that it insufficiently explained Catholic essentials.

Our Proposal: To Form An Experimental Group

If you are interested in doing the Alpha Course with me on a trial basis, I would be very interested in hearing from you! The idea is simple: to learn by doing and in the process to design an Alpha curriculum that fits our situation and trains leaders to conduct the program in the future. This is open to all segments of our community. I want creative dreamers with a Gospel fervor.

If you want to join the project, email me at xavierop@stanford.edu.
