Uwade Akhere

Uwade Akhere is a 3rd year PhD student in the Classics department at Stanford. Her interest in music began in the church, as she cantored at masses and sang with various choirs throughout her childhood in North Carolina. While completing her undergraduate degree at Columbia University, she served as Music Director of the University’s premier a cappella group, Notes and Keys. At the same time, she developed an interest in songwriting and performance, joining jazz and funk bands, and starting her career as a solo indie-folk musician. After completing her masters in Classics at the University of Oxford, she continued to tour, until she enrolled in the PhD program at Stanford. She recently released her debut album Florilegium, and is excited to continue to blend her interests in sacred, choral, and contemporary music.
