Children

Baptism
We are happy to offer the sacrament of baptism for families of Stanford students, faculty, staff, alums, and other families who have been registered, active, contributing members of Catholic Community @ Stanford for six months. Baptism of a child is intended as a commitment to raise that child with the Catholic faith.

Baptisms are celebrated at the 4:30pm mass in Memorial Church. Preparation classes for parents take place from 10:00–11:30am in the Old Union 3rd floor Common Room (520 Lasuen Mall, Stanford campus). For 2018-2019, the dates on which we will celebrate baptisms for infants, and the preparation dates, are as follows:

  • October 28, 2018 (preparation Saturday, October 20)
  • January 27, 2019 (preparation Saturday, January 19)
  • May 5, 2019 (preparation Saturday, April 27)

First Reconciliation // First Communion // Confirmation
Preparation for these sacraments is part of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) program. Families are committing to a year of Sunday morning attendance, parent participation duties, and a retreat. Registration space is limited, with first priority given to families of Stanford students, faculty, staff, alums, and other families who have been registered, active, contributing members of Catholic Community @ Stanford for six months. For more information, please contact Chaplain Teresa Pleins (tpleins@stanford.edu)

Children receiving these sacraments must be baptized Catholics. You will need to submit a copy of the certificate of Baptism. This can be a photocopy of your original certificate. Contact the church of baptism and indicate that your child is preparing for additional sacrament(s) and that you need a copy of the record. They will know what to do and will send it to you. Catholics who were baptized in denominations other than Roman Catholic can submit a photocopy of the Baptism certificate with a copy of the Catholic Profession of Faith.
